Sherri Rotert joined the firm in 2003 after working as an attorney at Cooley Godward, LLP a national law firm. A partner in our business section, Sherri has extensive experience with representing businesses and investors in complex business transactions. Representative transactions include:

  • Represented Sioux Falls based private company in a $200 million cross-border acquisition of the company by a Canadian public company.
  • Served as bond counsel to:
    • Lutheran Social Services in its $5 million tax-exempt bond issuance to fund the construction of the Center for Children and Youth.
    • South Dakota State University Foundation in its $10 million tax-exempt bond issuance to fund, among other things, the seed technology center.
    • Augustana Lutheran College in its $7.5 million tax-exempt bond issuance to fund the construction of the Fine Arts Center.
  • Represented a Fortune 500 life insurance company with private placements of debt transactions ranging in size from $35 million to $150 million.
  • Serves as General Counsel to South Dakota Biotechnology Association.
  • Serves as counsel to venture capitalists in numerous preferred stock and other equity investments in private companies.
  • Serves as general counsel to biotechnology companies involved with plant and animal research and development.
  • Represented various software companies with structuring intellectual property licenses, including distribution agreements, development licenses and end user licenses.
