Experience

As a partner in the business section, Heather Springer represents hospitals, physicians, physician groups, health care payors, and health care related organizations in various health care matters. She joined the firm in 2001 after working for the Kansas law firm of Foulston & Seifkin in its health law section. Heather also guides many employers, ranging from publicly traded companies to small employers, in all areas of employment law. Her experience includes the following representative projects:

• Advised health care providers and other businesses with HIPAA and other compliance matters.
• Negotiated multiple sales of physician groups to larger hospitals.
• Handled the buy-in and buy-out of physicians into physician practices.
• Served on peer review committee of hospitals to guide hospitals in the peer review process.
• Represented many physicians in employment negotiations with hospitals or other physician practices.
• Drafted hospital bylaws and medical staff bylaws for multiple hospital clients.
• Represented physicians in peer review process and negotiated outcomes to protect the physician’s future career prospects.
• Testified as an expert regarding the peer review process in South Dakota.
• Represents many of the independent municipal hospitals in South Dakota in all general matters.
• Drafts and implements cafeteria plans, medical expense reimbursement plans, and global benefit plans for local and regional employers.
